The famous ancient Greek health enthusiast Hippocrates, was had been promoting the health benefits of olive leaves, which are native to the Mediterranean region, where he lived. But archaeologists have discovered that long before Hippocrates in ancient Egypt, olive leaves were already in use for their health benefits. Since late last century, Olive Leaf Extract (OLE) capsules have been sold to consumers, after olive leaves made a modern medical comeback.
They are now well known for various health benefits, especially cardiovascular and immune related. It is known as one of the few natural sources forms of antivirus and likewise with regard to natural antibiotics. The most boasted of the cardiovascular benefits are lowered blood pressure and lowering of cholesterol buildups. There are many other benefits including antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory uses. Olive leaves are so beneficial thanks to antioxidants like hydroxytyrosol and especially oleuropein.
Most olive leaf extracts, like many herbal supplements, are in ground powdered leaf form, packed into capsules made of either plant extracts or animal sources. Only one supplement in this review, was confirmed to be made with animal extracts. Some OLEs can be taken in liquid form such as oils or tea. Only one liquid OLE was amongst the top five reviewed here, and that was an organic oil OLE from a family farm in Australia. The powder and oil options from OLEs can be likened to the availability of moringa supplements in ground leaf and oil forms.
Healths Harmony Olive Leaf
These bottles contain 60 capsules of 750 mg of olive leaf, with 150 mg or 20% oleuropein.
The OLE on top of this review list, was the only supplement reviewed, which was confirmed to have no genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The manufacturer claimed that there are no pesticides in this product, but also added that they are not organic certified because of the way they extract the oleuropein from the leaves. But they said it’s suitable for vegetarians. There’s no alcohol used in the production of the supplements. This product is made in the USA, and deliveries are reportedly fast and well packaged.

It has been reported that the manufacturer’s customer service personnel, have said on one occasion that the capsules are made from pigs and on another occasion that they are “likely” made from cattle and pigs. So people from certain religious backgrounds like Hinduism, Judaism, Islam and some forms of Christianity, might need to consider that in addition to these reports, the manufacturer has confirmed: these capsules are not vegan.
Some buyers reported that this supplement has been helping them to never experience anymore colds. One customer said it caused them indigestion, and said they had no mental improvements. Barlean’s Olive Leaf
These bottles contain 16 ounces of OLE oil and palm glycerin.
This supplement is uniquely different from the other OLEs reviewed here, because it is olive leaf extracted as an oil, rather than ground leaf extracts. It is also the only product on the list, which is organic. There’s several advantages to liquid OLE. It is more concentrated than the powdered capsule form. This brand has peppermint flavor, but some people like to mix it with drinks like juice or even just water. Issues over animal parts in the ingredients of capsule shells, obviously don’t exist with liquid OLE. Capsules take longer to digest, compared with liquid OLE in oil form.
This Australian OLE supplement is family owned and made from Australian grown olive leaves, from the Barlean family farm. Due to space limitations, and because much was said about the uniqueness of this product, details of health results won’t be mentioned in this review. But one unique result should be mentioned: that person said it helped them with an upper respiratory infection. It appears people have been having results comparable to the other OLE supplements, and some have even claimed their results were better than with powdered OLE capsules.
NOW Olive Leaf Extract

This product is also made of ingredients suitable for vegetarians. Several people were pleased with how affordable this brand is. There were instances of effective preventions for breakouts of cold sores and shingles respectively. Another person said they had a problem with stomach aches, which was solved by this supplement, until they stopped taking it. One buyer said it was good for reducing the symptoms of their chronic sinus issues. Another with psoriasis, which makes them more prone to skin infections, found prevention in this OLE.
What to Look For
One of the supplements reviewed was confirmed by the manufacturer to have capsules made of cattle or pig materials. All the others were confirmed to be vegetarian. This could be a health issue for some people, or it might be offensive to others with certain personal or religious convictions. So this should be considered because a lot of people, with such sensitivities, are simply unaware that the capsules could be made from cows or pigs.
The most commonly acclaimed benefit of these OLEs in general, has been the lowering of blood pressure and cholesterol, and generally their ability to treat and prevent colds and flu. There’s been many other cases of ailments that multiple people have claimed relief and even cures from. But results can vary between individuals.
A lot of people were impressed with the slow acting treatment of fungi, even over periods of months, especially with nails. Though OLEs can do the job, soaking a digit in vinegar for a few minutes, over a few days, has produced more impressive results. If OLEs cause you side effects, it might be the body’s natural and initial response to the deaths of bodily pathogens, which give off toxic chemicals when they die, else you should call a doctor to be safe.
