This Yoga type was introduced to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhai Joi. B.K.S. Iyengar, one of the most renowned Yoga gurus of our times, created this Yoga format which was named it after him. In this type of Yoga, the poses are held for a longer time thereby allowing your mind and body to focus on the subtle aspects of each pose. The postures in Iyengar Yoga often require props such as belts, blocks, bolsters, chairs, etc. to take care of the potential injuries, firmness in the posture, and to help achieve the right balance.
It consists of repetition of different exercises called kriya, dynamic breathing techniques, chanting, and meditation. The kriyas are done rapidly one after the other, along with certain breathing techniques to intensify your Yoga session.
